Matt Fien Brings Home Silver

Matt Fien Brings Home Silver

Saturday, 5 April 2008

On Saturday 5 April Matt Fien contested selection at the Victorian State Netball and Hockey centre for the Australian team to participate in the World Junior Taekwondo Championships in Istanbul Turkey in May.

This was the first time Matt has competed at an Australian team selection event following his success at the Australian Open in 2007 where Matt fought 3 fights to win gold making him current reigning Australian Champion.

Matt’s first opponent at the recent selection event in Melbourne was from Olympic Taekwondo centre in Melbourne and nerves took their toll with Matt losing his first contest 5 points to 3. With the first match jitters out of the way Matt went on to defeat his next opponent from South Australia 7 points to 0 and then the opponent after that from Western Australia with a score of 6 points to 0. Matt truly wishes he could overcome those first round jitters as clearly he out performed his opponents from the second match on.

A great result for a first time Australian team benchmark event participant. Way to go Matt!
