2016 Olympic Qualification Process

The WTF have released the Grand Prix 2016 Olympic Qualification Process radically changing the traditional systems of Olympic Qualification.
The WTF Grand Prix requires athletes to be ranked in the top 32 in order to earn GP Points that will award the top 6 athletes as at the end of the GP series with automatic qualification for and individual rights to compete at the 2016 Olympic Games.
Although STA’s selection policy is not yet finalised, World and GP ranking points will have a significant impact on which Olympic weight categories and which individual athletes will be targeted for Regional Qualification and Australian representation at the 2016 Olympic Games.
Accordingly, all international WTF sanctioned events are now highly significant and athletes are encouraged to prepare for and compete at these events. Coach and athlete attention is directed towards the WTF Events Calendar
STA looks forward to assisting our athletes and member clubs in their aspirations to become National Team and Olympic Champions.
