Well I am sure you are all across the excitement of the Factor10 Yellow Jacket tournament. If not … well … I guess you need to be! This is a not to be missed chance for all martial artists to apply their martial art skills in a one on one situation. We all know soccer, hockey, football and netball players train so they can have a game and apply their skills, well martial arts is not different.
This marital arts tournament has modified rules so everyone, of every skill level, of every level of confidence can have a go and take away a life experience that cannot be obtained anywhere else.
This tournament is an invitation only development tournament particularly geared to providing clubs with an opportunity to give members a sparring experience that is uniquely matched to their ability and experience.
A maximum of 10 fighters from other clubs may be entered into the F10 Yellow Jacket tournament.
The unique features of this tournament are:
1. There is controlled contact so there is no knock down rule. Players kick and punch to the chest protector (juniors) and kicking only to the head protector (14-17 and open) with controlled contact.
2. Fighters participate in a round robin system where they get to fight all other fighters in their division regardless of the result. Points are given based on a win and a loss.
3. Coaches may call one time out during the contest to provide additional coaching support to their fighter. If coaches have particular needs this may be increased to two time outs per contest.
4. Greater leniency is provided in case of injuries from clashes to extend beyond the one minute injury time.
5. The Yellow Jacket is awarded to the fighter who shows the best fighting spirit. It is not awarded based exclusively on winning results. One jacket is awarded in the 7 years and under divisions; two jackets are awarded in the 8-12 years divisions; one jacket across the 13-17divisions; one jacket across open and one across masters.
6. Coaches may have a mentor coach assisting at the chair.
7. Referees and judges are developing skills also and so matches may be suspended for a moment to provide referee and judge feedback to improve decision making and interpretation of rules.
8. Players are given a time range that their division will be scheduled for and so players only need arrive for their division to be played. Round robin contests are played consecutively generally with a fight rest between contests, depending on the number in the division. We try to make sure each fighter has 3 fights on the day.
9. Winners of each division receive a trophy. Place getters receive a ribbon. All participants receive a certificate of participation.
10. Once nominations are in, in order to prepare the draw in a way that each fighter gets the best opportunity for a development experience, we talk to the coach, by phone to discuss match ups and special needs they may have for their fighters. This may take a little time however the great development you get from this will be well worth it.
Whilst this tournament is geared for fighters who have limited to no experience in sparring tournaments, clubs are asked to please advise by email if they have more advanced fighters they would like to organise contests for and we can match them based on particular needs. For example, you may have a fighter who is quite advanced who you would like to experience a high level fighter but with controlled contact so they can experience fighting someone of a higher standard but without the risks of higher injury etc.
We have run this tournament for some years now with attendance from a couple of clubs including Rawlins, Tans, Bjorn’s and Kicks, however this year we would like to open up this tournament to other clubs.
